I might throw a regular paper filter in line with it too. I can see how too much water would make them crack. I haven't had any engines with them, so this is a first for me. I figured it was for cleaning out the orifices. I noticed in the pic of the rebuild kit, that they included a mangled up paperclip looking thing. I'm more familiar with the Kohler & Walboro carbs. Is that the same for both of the jets? Who made these carbs anyhow? It's an interesting design, I'll say. After one had the glass break and start a fire,I decided to go with other types of gas filters instead.

I liked them except for one thing-that glass bowl can crack in cold weather if water gets in the gas,and its not always possible to buy just the bowl.that can ruin a day when you need it to plow or blow snow! I had them on quite a few tractors and engines,I found out the screens they sell for smoking pipes fit most of them perfect, but finding the rubber gaskets can be hard,I made them from inner tubes. You can buy a new fuel bowl/shutoff from Northern Tool cheap,or at Tractor Supply. BTW, does anyone know what the initial carb adjustments are? It's not something that I want to guess.Īny help would be greatly appreciated. The sediment bowl is leaky, I think I'll have a look around the net and see if I can find a new one. Hopefully, a carb rebuild will do the trick. I have the carb off soaking in a can of Berrymans, and a carb kit on the way. I have a model W tractor with a B&S Model 19 on it. I hope this thread is not too old to resurect.

I'll try to get a pic of the exact part tonight but if anyone knows what I'm talking about feel free to chime in. It was round and maybe 3' in diameter and kind of resembled a lid to canning car or something. The yellow box on the picture is a little vague but it was on the side of the motor that is the front of the tractor and you do not have to remove the flywheel shroud to see it, only the gas tank and mounting plate.

The part looks to be connected directly to the engine block on what I would call the 'shoulder' (below or next to the cylinder). I didn't get a pic of the part but I'll do my best to describe it from memory and I've indicated the position of it with the yellow box in the pic below.

My main questions right now are: A) What is the little glass thing under the fuel tank that connects the tank to the fuel line called and what does it do? It looks like it can be screwed down as a fuel shutoff but I'm not sure what the glass is for? B) I took off the gas tank and mounting bracket last night to clean it and I noticed another part that I could not identify. Here is the engine info: B&S Model 19 Type: 706044 Serial: 650073 Does anyplace on the net have diagrams for engines this old? I understand that a motor this old is going to be made largely of obsolete parts that I can't just walk into my local B&S parts dealer and buy but I'd still be interested to see the exploded diagram if for no other reason than to learn the correct names for all the individual parts. I have all the information off the number plate on the side of the motor but I can't find anywhere that has a parts diagram/exploded views of the engine parts. I am restoring an old Simplicity Model W walk behind with a Briggs Model 19 on it. Find great deals on eBay for briggs stratton model 19.
